What is this drama about?
Hua Zhi comes from a very wealthy and respected Hua family. Since she was a child, she traveled with her grandfather and explored the world. One day, her grandfather, a good and wise man, offended the emperor with his opinion. Everything was taken from the Hua family, the men were expelled to the far north, and the women and children were driven from their homes and left with nothing. In this tragic situation, only Hua Zhi did not lose hope and took over the management of the family.
I watched this drama while it was being broadcast. I started it because of Zhang Jingyi, but I loved it because of the wonderful story. The drama tells primarily about the fate of women who have always lived in luxury and suddenly have to cope without the support of men. It is also a beautiful story about family. Hua Zhi always lived in her own world, planning trips and reading books. She never felt a connection with her relatives, she even said she didn’t like them. Thanks to this difficult situation, she had the opportunity to get to know all her aunts, cousins and grandmother better. Their scenes together, when they supported each other, when they worked together for the good of the family and when they resolved various conflicts, were often the most touching moments of this drama. I can’t remember the last time I got so emotional during a drama.
When starting this drama, my biggest fear was the romance and whether it would be possible to create a believable chemistry between Hua Zhi and Gu Yanxi. I wasn’t sure if Hu Yitian could handle this task. To my surprise, their romance was very subtle, well-acted and different from what we usually see in dramas. They were both able to talk to each other honestly, explain everything without unnecessary drama and treat each other as real partners.
There are a lot of great characters in the drama, something is constantly happening and our main character is able to get out of any situation with the incredible support of the women from her family.
I recommend this drama to anyone who loves stories of strong women and likes to shed a tear. It’s a wonderful drama and these 40 episodes are effortless to watch.
