“When The Phone Rings” – first Impression

What is this drama about?

Baek Sa Eon and Hong Hui Ju have been married for 3 years. They both come from wealthy families. However, this is not an ordinary marriage by contract between two wealthy heirs. Their relationship hides an uncomfortable secret that cannot be revealed, especially during the presidential elections, which Baek Sa Eon’s father is preparing for. The young spouses are practically strangers, especially since communication between them is difficult due to Hui Ju’s selective mutism. One day, Sa Eon receives a strange phone call from a man who claims that Hui Ju has been kidnapped.

I didn’t have this drama on my watchlist, but I was convinced by the good reviews of the first episodes and the main actress (Chae Soo Bin), who I really like. The funniest thing is that my biggest obstacle to watching this drama was the main actor (Yoo Yeon Seok), whose character in the first part of Dr. Romantic irritated me terribly. After the first two episodes of this new drama, I am under the spell of his extraordinary charisma. He is still not my favorite actor (for now, everything can still change), but his character in WTPR has a huge magnetism that doesn’t let you peel yourself off the screen.

I thought this series would be more of a drama, but it is a full-blown romance that reminds me of those good old kdramas from years ago. We have everything here, the seemingly cold ML, the arranged marriage of the rich, the weak and innocent FL and the theme of love between enemies and lovers (but is it really?). I hope that until the end this drama will give me as many emotions as the first two episodes. I recommend checking out this title, if only for the incredibly electrifying chemistry between the main pair.
