“Let’s talk about Chu” – a funny story from the intimate life of a Taiwanese family

What is this drama about?

Ai, the youngest daughter of the Chu family, works in a hair removal salon every day, and after work she runs a blog with s&x education. The girl doesn’t believe in love, only in good s&x. For some time now she has been in such a no-strings-attached relationship with her friend Ping-Ke. Over time, it turns out that her entire immediate family has problems in this intimate sphere of life.

I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. I knew what the subject of this drama was, but it turned out that I knew practically very little.

In addition, I thought that it was the story of one specific person, and in fact the titular CHU is each member of a 5-person family with that surname. Love, relationship, closeness and s&x are shown here in different versions thanks to this diverse family. We have an old married couple, a gay son, a daughter’s marriage in which passion has burned out and the youngest daughter, who firmly separates s&x from love. The drama has many adult scenes, although there is little nudity here. The brother’s storyline was the least appealing to me at the beginning. He was terribly passive towards his partner, without joy in life, so gloomy. When he met the gangster, it was more enjoyable to watch, because it was quite funny.

Observing all these twisted relationships, I had a lot of theories and I’m glad that none of them came true.

The best character is the mother. She’s a typical middle age woman who, instead of focusing on her relationship with her husband, tries to manage the lives of her adult children, even though they don’t need it anymore. Her scenes made me laugh the most.

The last episode ties everything together into a nice whole. The drama shows that for a relationship to work, you need open communication, honesty towards others, but most of all towards yourself. Sometimes you have to stop for a moment and think about whether we’re okay, whether all this makes sense, what we still want to fight for and what we have to let go of.

Interesting fact. At the end of each episode, after the credits (!!!), there are these short s&x life tips, which the youngest Chu gives on her blog. It’s worth listening to.

This Taiwanese drama has only 8 episodes of 50 minutes

Who is this drama for?

Someone who is not afraid of bold discussions about s&x and likes to laugh out loud.
