What is this drama about?
Xu Xiao (Lai Weiming)is a young man whose family has long been involved in restoring antique porcelain. From a young age, he learned everything from his father. He doesn’t have many friends and is a bit of a loner. Zhao Xiaocen (Zhou Yi Ru) has been ill since childhood, which is why her mother took complete control of her daughter’s life and even chose her field of study for her. Together with Zhao Xiaocen, they are starting their first year of studies at Jingdezhen University and will be learning about traditional Chinese culture and how to professionally restore old, damaged porcelain.

As soon as I saw what this drama was about, I knew I had to watch it. I’m fascinated by all dramas that feature themes related to Chinese cultural heritage, and this one has a lot of it. I was a little worried it would be boring, but it was actually very good (well, maybe except for the technical aspects, because the problem was the constantly blurry image).

The romance between the main characters, which clearly served as a backdrop for the beautiful porcelain, was truly charming. Xu Xiao is a wonderful boy. Warm, understanding, caring, and incredibly respectful of people, especially Zhao Xiaocen. She’s a typical girl raised in a bubble by a dictatorial mother who dictated every detail of her life. I understand that she did all this out of fear for her health and life, but eventually, the time had to come when she felt she wanted to grow up and live her own life. The relationship between these two young people developed very pleasantly, slowly (even very slowly), but in a very satisfying, peaceful way. There were no fireworks, as that didn’t suit their personality types, but you could feel how close they were and how they understood each other.

I’m sure the drama was created to show how the famous city of Jingdezhen cares about preserving cultural heritage and how important it is for young people to explore this topic, uphold and cherish tradition. Maybe one day I’ll go there myself and learn something.
This is a drama for anyone interested in China’s cultural heritage, especially blue-and-white porcelain and its restoration.
